Present Use: Presently in use as a specialized restaurant.
Size:
Small. This would have been a small size Sambo's (Double window
booths. Counter with Stools.
Building Condition: (1-10) "7"
OUTSIDE
Googie: This is a Googie designed Sambo's.
Original Design: Original constructed design still intact. Only addition
is the three cooking exaust fans added through roof. One inch
tile still present on lower panels.
Rock Entry Area: Original rock still present. No signs of sign mountings
present.
Windows: Full original window view.
Palm Trees: No palm trees would have been used here, do to winters.
Sign:
Original sign post present. Not original sign.
INSIDE
Counter: Counter and stools removed.
Booths: All booths removed and replaced with eating area and
seating around cooking grill (3).
Kitchen: "Pass over shelf" and opening to kitchen
removed and covered.
COMMENTS
This building is still complete and original on the outside.
Would need some work to bring back to Sambo's design on the
inside. Originally this Sambo's was placed on a busy highway 20.
But as time would have it, Interstate 184 has been placed and
written instructions should be prepared before locating this
restaurant.
ADDITIONAL
COMMENTS
This is a Japanese type of restaurant that cooks your food
directly in front of you on a grill. If you haven't experienced
this before, it's well worth finding one. The cooks are very
talented and entertaining. And the food is good. I plan to bring
the wife back to this former Sambo's for a night she hasn't
experienced and won't forget.
